Residential Damp Survey For The Homeowner Chester

Residential Damp Survey For The Homeowner Chester

This was not a free damp survey. You get what you pay for these days

We were instructed to carry out a damp survey for a homeowner in Chester. The owner was suffering with damp wall and was about to get a builder to install a new chemical damp proof course (costing £1,760). Her friend then told her about our company and what we offer. She booked a damp survey with one of our specialist surveyors and was shocked by his findings.

The dampness was due to internal plaster in contact with the solid floor. This was acting like a wick and absorbing residual moisture from the concrete floor and causing a dark stain just above the skirting board. The property was also suffering from condensation and this was aiding the damp problem.

Issues in the property:

  • Condensation
  • Internal bridging
  • Wasn’t rising damp!!!

Treatment required:

  • Improve ventilation to the kitchen and bathroom areas
  • Remove skirting board and remove any plaster in contact with the solid floor. Replace skirting board and allow the wall to dry out.

Note: always have a specialist look at your damp issue before wasting money on unnecessary rising damp treatment.
